BFCG has participated in this traditional Week over the years, more recently with a United Songs of Praise and it is proposed to do so again this year. The Songs of Praise will be held in the New Kirk (Queen Street /St Vincent Street corner) on Sunday 10th July at 6.30pm.
It is hoped that the hymn selection will come from among as wide a range as possible of BFCG member churches (which includes Dundee Methodists). Let the Eassons know your choice & reasons for it by phone or email.
We will be meeting online, from 7:30 pm till about 9:00pm on Wednesday evenings, starting on 2nd March.
We will be exploring various aspect of Christian Character using an 11-week study guide and will be looking at 6 of the book’s chapters before Easter with the possibility of continuing with the others afterwards. The themes are: Freed to serve God ; Jesus as Lord; Cost of Commitment; Resisting Temptation; Trusting God; Living Holy Lives; Showing Compassion; Serving Others; Godly Self-Image; Spiritual Gifts; Persevering.

There will be Services in Dundee in St Andrew’s Cathedral, Nethergate, and the Baptist Church, St Vincent Street, Broughty Ferry at 2.30pm, and in Dundee West Church, Perth Road at 7.30pm

Following a discussion last year in Broughty Ferry Churches Group leading to contact with the Ferry Community Council, Rotary, and other local groups & individuals, a Steering Group has been formed for a Ferry Community Fridge project. Work is in the preparatory stages but it is hoped a Community Fridge will be “up and running” as soon as feasible.
The Week of Payer for Christian Unity will be marked with an online Act of Worship, using liturgical material from Churches in the Middle East on the theme “We saw the star”- this is likely to be on Saturday 22nd January from 10.15 am (for 10.30 am start). All are welcome – more details to follow.
Broughty Ferry Churches Group are again holding an ecumenical Bible Study by Zoom on Wednesdays. For information, contact Jenny or David Easson.
At the online meeting of the Broughty Ferry Churches Group this week, there was a presentation by the Administrator of the West End Community Fridge Project based at The Gate. Community Fridge Projects seek, in cooperation with a range of agencies and groups, to address issues of ‘food waste’ working with supermarkets and other retail outlets. Interest in the possibility of a Community Fridge in the Ferry has also been expressed at Community Council meetings. BFCG is therefore seeking to facilitate a meeting of those interested in exploring this further, as partner groups working together.
BFCG held the regular September meeting on Tuesday by Zoom and received reports from the Treasurer, With Refugees Broughty Ferry, and Broughty Ferry Food Bank. It was agreed that a donation of £500 be given from BFCG funds to Christian Aid as the Coffee Morning in May could not take place. It was also agreed to invite speakers to the November meeting to help exploration of the feasibility of a “Community Fridge” in the Ferry – this is a way to recycle surplus fresh food and reduce food waste.
Reports from each congregation gave a general picture of gradual resumption of worship by most, following Risk Assessment procedures and, where appropriate, booking to try to control maximum numbers. It was noted that for some regular attenders, a return to worship together physically, albeit ‘different’ & without socialising, was a welcome step, whilst for others, understandably, the need to exercise personal caution remained. The resumption of previous activities and use of premises through outside bookings had not taken place.
