The Redevelopment Group learned recently that a structural engineer was unlikely to give a clean bill of health to the concrete cladding on the front of the building. Based on experience of structures from a similar era, it is likely that metal fixtures are corroded.
The group met a week past Wednesday, and agreed that it would be wrong to ignore this problem. We decided to ask the architect to incorporate a whole new frontage, much of which could be glass, into his revised designs; the architect suggests this frontage could be ‘substantially’ cheaper than that in the original plans.
The Church Council previously agreed to pay professional fees of about £2,000 to find out whether the plans at that stage were feasible within our budget of £250,000 including VAT. The intention now is to spend the £2k in testing the latest plans.
The rota of duties for Sundays in December to February inclusive will be drawn up soon. If you are able to join (one or more of) the teams of collection counters, door stewards, or coffee servers, please let Jenny know. Offers for even 1 or 2 Sundays will help! Dundee Mountain Film Festival will take place (for its 37th year!) between 28th and 30th November under the title “Inspiring outdoor adventure”. The main venues are the Steps Theatre (Central Library) and the Bonar Hall (University of Dundee campus).
The Pastoral Committee will meet on Wednesday at 1pm. Business will include the annual Reading of Lists and agreement of the return for the Connexional Schedule; also a general review of our system of pastoral care.
Copies (free) of the magazine “Transform” are on the vestibule table. There is also an online version. Jenny Easson will take orders from anyone wishing to receive this magazine regularly.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 5th November at 10.15am in Marketgait. It will look at Advent & Christmas worship, as well as any other items of relevance to our worship life. Please give apologies, feedback, or material to Sue Commander.
With Refugees Broughty Ferry (WRBF), a group set up under the auspices of and supported by Broughty Ferry Churches Group (BFCG), and affiliated to Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees (SFAfR), is holding the above event in St James’ Church halls (foot of Fort Street, Broughty Ferry DD5 2AD) at 7pm on Tuesday 29th October 2019.
The speakers include Sabine Chalmers (SFAfR) and Agi Szekely from Kalunba, a charity, supported by the Budapest Church of Scotland congregation, which works with refugees settling in Hungary. WRBF and Kalunba are developing closer links and looking to ways of support and mutual awareness-raising.
ALL INTERESTED in welcome & support for refugees locally, nationally or internationally are welcome to this event. Refreshments will be available.
The fellowship group had a good turn out when it first met on 30thSeptember though we are happy for anyone else who wishes to join to come along! Next meeting is Monday 28th October at 7pm in the ‘L’ room.
