6 September 2015
Next Sunday 13 September 2015
- 11 am
- Worship led by Mrs Beryl Cowling
We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, anxious, or grieving for the loss of loved ones.
Welcome Service thanks
Sue Marshall-Jennings for the Circuit and Jenny Easson
for the host congregation offer warmest thanks to those who
in any way helped before, during and after Wednesday's Welcome
Service. Many expressions of gratitude and appreciation have
come from Methodists and ecumenical guests for the Service
itself, the welcome (as encouraged in the Chair of the Synod's
address!) and general hospitality. Sue and Jenny are aware
of much thought and hard work which were offered and given,
so they wish all concerned to know that this is much
appreciated by them and others.
Dundee Open Doors Weekend
We now need to make arrangements for our participation during
the weekend of September 19th and 20th - see our listing in the
official brochure (copies on the vestibule table - take and
distribute!!).
- The premises are to be open to the public between 10am
& 2pm on the Saturday and between 12 noon (ie after
worship) & 2pm on the Sunday, with displays and serving
of light refreshments.
- Jenny & David Easson have been invited to prepare
a display of the history of Methodists in Dundee - if you
can assist with material, please contact them as soon as
possible.
- If you can be available to welcome and serve
refreshments to visitors, at any time during the
opening hours, please let Sue or a Church Steward know.
Please also pass on suggestions about ways of presenting
ourselves, our faith, our work, our premises.
Blairgowrie Congregation
From today, Riverside Methodist Church will worship at
11am in “SCYD”,
Wellmeadow House, Gas Brae,
Blairgowrie PH10 6AY (SCYD is the Strathmore Centre for
Youth Development, a refurbished central building, much
used already but not on Sundays until today!).
Sponsored Cycle Ride
John Howson, a member of
Holmes Chapel Methodist Church,
is undertaking a sponsored bike ride up
the east coast of Scotland, starting last Thursday
in Berwick-on-Tweed (south of the Border!)
and ending in John O'Groats a week tomorrow.
He is “riding solo with no back up support”;
some hospitality is being provided by Methodists en route,
following his approach through local Ministers.
He hopes this ride will be a 'prequel' to a longer journey
next year (Land's End to J'o'G) using his bus pass through England.
Donations are invited to
SIFT, a Christian charity, working with
poor people in Nicaragua, and to
Open Doors, which works for
persecuted Christians worldwide. See the JustGiving website,
under his name, or individual charities' websites for
more information.

in September for work in Iraq. Our prayerful attention this week is drawn to
- translators in Papua New Guinea where there are over
840 indigenous languages;
- literacy classes in Pakistan, also the safety of the
Bible Society and its staff;
- support for work with young people and their leaders
in Paraguay.
Dewhurst Cotton Reels wanted!!
Beryl Cowling is making a request on behalf of Barbara Glasson to Methodist Women in Britain (MwiB)
and all of us.
Barbara Glasson is a Methodist minister, now in Bradford, a city with a mix of ethnicities
and religions where the interfaith Touchstone Project is expanding into premises once occupied
by the Dewhurst family, famous for making thread and cotton reels.
As part of the fund-raising, Barbara and colleagues wish to amass as many old Dewhurst
reels as they can (with thread or not) for (aiming for a whole set of D numbers if possible!).
Please rummage through sewing baskets and other (un)likely places to see if you have any Dewhurst
reels to donate. Please put them in the box on the vestibule table. Beryl will ensure they reach
the project. Fuller details on leaflets on vestibule table or contact Beryl.

“We are a family: the changing face of family
ministry” - a joint Methodist / ACTS one day conference.
The conference will be hosted jointly by the Methodist Church
and the
Scottish Churches
Children's Group of Action of Churches Together
in Scotland (ACTS). The report “We are a family: the changing face of family
ministry” is the culmination of two years'
ground-breaking research and consultation regarding the
current shape of work with families across the Church
in the UK undertaken by the Consultative Group on
Children's Ministry (CGMC) and the Methodist Church.
The day will be led by Gail Adcock, the Family Ministry
Development Officer for The Methodist Church in the UK;
Gail has been the lead coordinator for this research project.
This day event will explore a host of different ways in which the
Church works with familes and will seek to answer questions, such as:
- How is the Church working with families today?
- What does this ministry look like?
- What training and resources are available for those working
in this field?
Also experience the brand new '
Core Skills for Family Ministry'
course developed to equip all those working with families and
includes reflections from Carrie Longton, co-founder of Mumsnet.
Delegates will receive a free edition of the brand new Core Skills
Course book.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided, a donation
towards the catering costs would be appreciated.

Learning & Development Officer, South); williamsg@methodistchurch.org.uk
