Preaching Plan for June-August 2015

The plan for the coming quarter is now online. Please note the amendment of Blairgowrie preachers in June. It has been distributed by email and will also be available (soon) in printed form from the vestibule table for those who have ordered a hard copy. Please contact David Easson to receive a copy in either format.

Water Damage in Marketgait

All rooms are now more or less available for use, although there are still residual signs of the effects and care is needed in certain areas. Insurance and necessary short and longer-term repairs are being followed up.

Warmest thanks are expressed to those who dealt so promptly with the immediate situation and those who are also continuing to monitor and deal with remaining matters.

Solas Festival - Methodist Tent

A warm invitation is given to join other Scotland Methodists (and everyone else!) at the Solas Festival - and particularly in the Methodist Tent - on Saturday 20th June at The Bield, Blackruthven, Perth.

The theme of the festival this year is Between the Lines, inviting people to explore, through the creative arts and joint activities, who we are, what separates and what brings us together.

The Methodist Tent will offer reflective activities on the theme of “breaking out”, beginning with a time of prayer at 11am, then an exploration of the site, before chance to join in whatever is going on, closing with a gathering together at the Tent at 4pm.

Funding is being made available - contact Louise McAspurren at City of Edinburgh Methodist Church office.

For more details or to volunteer for a spell of “Tent duty”, please contact Helen Wareing; phone 07799 900465.

An initial donation of £10,000 has been given from the World Mission Fund and a Disaster Management Expert, Paul Wright has arrived to work again with the United Mission to Nepal. See more news from Nepal. All We Can (MRDF) is also working with partners in Nepal and has launched an appeal for funds and also joined a call for unconditional debt cancellation for Nepal, to release funds for relief and development work.

Methodist Church: Past Safeguarding Cases Review

A Report has been published following an independent review of past safeguarding cases relating to the Methodist Church from 1950 to 2014. In response to its findings, the Secretary of Conference and General Secretary, the Rev Martyn Atkins, has issued a full and unreserved apology, on behalf of the Church, to survivors and victims of abuse cases. Conference, meeting in Southport from 25th June to 2nd July, will discuss the findings of the Past Cases Review and be invited to establish an independent group to take forward the 23 recommendations in the Report.
