Next Sunday 21 June 2015
General Church Meeting
- 10.45 am
- Worship and annual General Church Meeting
conducted by the Rev Mary Patterson
We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.
Methodist Homes Sunday
Today is being observed connexionally as Methodist Homes
Sunday and envelopes are available for donations in support
of work among the older members of our communities - please
return via the offering plate today or in coming Sundays.
Donations may also be given to David Easson, as Church
Treasurer, for forwarding to and through Iris Baldry,
the Circuit's MH link person.
General Church Meeting - next Sunday
The General Church Meeting will begin at 10.45am with coffee
served from 10.30am; this will enable us to finish before
1pm when parking charges start. We will sit at
tables - assistance with setting these out
on Saturday will be welcome! The format will include
worship, necessary business, and time for conversation on our
life as a Methodist church community based on Marketgait.
Please note that required business includes the (re)appointments
of Church Stewards (one vacancy at least still!), and reps to the
Church Council (3 persons). To volunteer, nominate, or suggest
people to approach, please contact a current Church Steward.
Preaching Plan for June-August 2015
The
plan for the coming quarter is now online. Please note
the amendment of Blairgowrie preachers in June. It
has been distributed by email
and some printed copies are
on the vestibule table. Please contact
David Easson to receive a copy in either format.
Ministers on the Move
Rev Mary Patterson has requested that there is no formal
marking of the end of her ministry with and among us, but
the GCM will give opportunity to express our best wishes
before her move to the Ayrshire and Renfrewshire Circuit.
The Circuit Welcome Service for the Rev Nick Baker will
be in Dundee on Wednesday 2nd September at 6pm.
Solas Festival - Methodist Tent
A warm invitation is given to join other Scotland Methodists
(and everyone else!) at the Solas Festival - and particularly in
the Methodist Tent - on Saturday 20th June at The Bield, Blackruthven,
Perth.
The theme of the festival this year is Between the Lines, inviting
people to explore, through the creative arts and joint activities, who
we are, what separates and what brings us together.
The Methodist Tent will offer reflective activities on the theme
of “breaking out”, beginning with a time of prayer at 11am,
then an exploration of the site, before chance to join in whatever
is going on, closing with a gathering together at the Tent at 4pm.
Funding is being made available - contact Louise McAspurren at City
of Edinburgh Methodist Church office.
For more details or to volunteer for a spell
of “Tent duty”, please contact Helen Wareing;
phone 07799 900465.
Food Bank thanks
Dundee Foodbank has sent a certificate acknowledging donations
made by and through Dundee Methodists during 2014: our gifts of
213.5 kg (over 30 stones) provided food for 27 individuals.
Recent donations of 75 kg will have provided 3 days of meals
for 9 persons (calculated by the weight of a standard food parcel).
See certificate and letter on noticeboard.
- Thanks go to Liz Kay for acting as our link person.
- Please place items in the large bucket on the upstairs landing - clean plastic bags are also welcome.
Methodist Prayer Handbook 2015-16
The new edition of the Handbook, Pilgrims on a Journey
will be published in August and Pam Bostock is offering to place an order for all Circuit
churches.
If you wish to be included in this order or suggest
someone who would wish a copy, please sign the paper on
the vestibule or let Jenny Easson know by Sunday 21st
June when she will forward the Dundee order to Pam.
For bulk orders, the advertised cost is
- Single copy in ordinary print - £3.35
- Single copy in large print - £3.35
