We send the assurance of our continuing care to all who face change in their personal or professional circumstances, and remember too all who seek to support those facing such challenges.

Blairgowrie: Open Doors Weekend

Riverside Methodist Church Blairgowrie invites our support for “Doors Open Weekend” events today:

  • 2pm - 4pm, the Church open, with refreshments
  • Songs of Praise in the Church at 7pm.

Church Council résumé

Matters discussed at this week's meeting included

  • reports covering Circuit, Synod, pastoral, Stewards, finance, worship, children - “Messy Church”;
  • use of equipment and general security in Marketgait;
  • Safeguarding issues;
  • the Church's ministry of flowers;
  • the future of our present premises;
  • next Worship Consultation - Thursday 7th November at 7pm;
  • next Church Council - Thursday 5th February at 7pm.

Dundee Methodists and Food Banks

We support the Dundee Foodbank by bringing in any of the suggested items from the Shopping List (on the table on the upstairs landing) and placing them in the large blue Bucket provided nearby. An explanatory slip is also available. There is also need for plastic carrier bags of suitable size; please place any spares by the Bucket. Monetary donations are also welcome. President of Conference in Scotland

The Rev Ken Howcroft will be in the Edinburgh and Forth Circuit next Sunday as follows:

  • 11am Celebration of 250 years of Methodism, Dunbar
  • 6.30pm Circuit Service, with Communion, City of Edinburgh Methodist Church, Nicolson Square.

Key questions about the relationships between the current revival of off-road pilgrim travel, spirituality, and today's global conservation movement will be discussed by a panel of key speakers; it is hoped that a Scottish Government Minister will also attend. There will be a choice of workshops involving the different stakeholders, including churches, concerned in developing new Pilgrim Way long distance routes.
The Scottish Pilgrim Routes Forum (SPRF) AGM will be held separately after the Gathering.

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support via the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in September for work in Botswana and in October for work in Bolivia.

Our prayerful attention this week is drawn to

  • work in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia, especially among tens of thousands of people who lost their homes in recent floods;
  • use of Bible comics published in 14 different languages in the Solomon Islands;
  • work in Mongolia;
  • literacy projects among indigenous women in Bolivia, aiming also to develop employment skills and to tackle domestic violence.
