Next Sunday
11 November 2012

10.45 am
Worship, including the Two Minutes' Silence at 11am, led by Mrs Julya Walsh

We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

“One Circuit” Resolution - Faith Lunch

The proposed “Faith Lunch” to enable shared conversation on this important proposal, will take place after worship today. There is usually sufficient food to share and drinks are provided, so please stay if you wish.

Jars of Grace

As part of our support of the annual UNICEF Appeal, jars are to be returned soon to Margaret, please.

Sound System

Further work has taken place, which it is hoped has resolved previous problems and caused no new ones! Everyone is asked to note that the controls have been set and should not be altered - all that is required is to switch on at the wall plug inside the cupboard. Any adjustment of the CD player sound should be made through its controls only.

Safeguarding

Is there anyone who has not done this training yet or who would like to do it whether required to or not? Please let Alan or 'tricia know as soon as possible please.

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in November for work in Brazil.

Our attention is drawn this week to

  • celebrations on Tuesday in Shanghai to mark 60 million Bibles produced and distributed in China since 1985;
  • celebrations on Wednesday of the printing of the 100 millionth Bible by the Amity Press in China (since 1987);
  • distribution and use of the autumn edition of “Alive and Active” (see immediately below).

“Alive and Active” - the autumn issue of the quarterly SBS magazine is now available. Spare (free) copies are on the Vestibule table; if you would like to receive a copy regularly, please let Jenny Easson know.

The HALO Trust

The HALO Trust is a non-political, non-religious organisation, registered in the UK and the USA, specialising in the removal of the hazardous debris of war. It has over 8000 full-time staff in 13 countries, possibly expanding into new areas. After 24 years, it records

  • over 1.4 million landmines destroyed
  • over 348,300 minefields cleared
  • over 52 million bullets destroyed
  • 345,387 acres made safe from unexploded and abandoned ordnance
  • 7,768 miles of road cleared.

This work “directly saves lives and allows a return to normal rural livelihoods in some of the poorest countries in the world”. Demand continues - “in some countries we still have 5 more years of work and in countries such as Afghanistan our work plan extends to 2020.”
