We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

Signpost International Sponsorship

At the General Church Meeting, it was agreed that our support for this very worthwhile work should no longer come from the Benevolence Fund but out of the General Fund helped by any individual contributions. If you wish to assist in continuing our sponsorship of Aldrian Songgaling and his village in the Philippines, please contact David Easson as Church Treasurer.

Contributions requested

The Link Club is to take a stall at an open air-market sponsored by Dundee Rotary in the City Square on Saturday 25th August. If you have suitable goods for this stall, please hand them to Club helpers. A marked Box is available for receipt of books (and other small items?) in the Vestibule. Funds raised are likely to be allocated to the purchase of equipment and materials for Club members' activities.

Bill Reid (Connexional Liaison Officer Scotland) draws our attention to this leaflet launched at the Royal Highland Show last month, jointly produced by the Church of Scotland's Church and Society Council and the ecumenical Scottish Churches Rural Group. Bill commends this material, together with the Church of Scotland Report to the 2012 General Assembly, “Our Daily Bread”, as general resources for raising awareness and further study. Contact him (01786 820295) or Synod members who have been sent copies-on line.

Our prayerful attention is drawn to

  • creation of strong working relationships with churches in East Timor to increase Bible ministry;
  • Bible Society of India working with women, orphans and people with disabilities;
  • increase in Bible distribution in Sri Lanka, also bicentenary celebrations;
  • new General Secretary of the Bangladesh Bible Society, also plans to distribute 3,500 Bibles through projects with children and young people.

BibleLands snippets

“Many people know of us (but not necessarily about us) from our famous Bethlehem Carol Sheets.”

Regular readers of this church news-sheet will note the inclusion of BibleLands work in the weekly “Prayer Points”, using the Prayer Diary in their magazine “The Star in the East”.

“BibleLands seeks to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the Middle East. We do this in partnership with local Christians, focussing on education. healthcare and community development.”

Rev Baroness Kathleen Richardson of Calow, a former President of the Methodist Conference, is one of the Patrons.

One of the Annual Meetings will take place in Edinburgh:

  • Saturday 29th September
  • Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, EH1 1EL
  • 10.30am - 3.30pm
  • Guest speaker Usama Khalilieh, Director of the Four Homes of Mercy, Bethany, in the West Bank, will talk about the challenges of living and working as the staff care for 75 people with severe disabilities, in the midst of a difficult economic and political situation.
