Bill Reid (Connexional Liaison Officer Scotland) draws our attention to a leaflet launched at the Royal Highland Show last month, jointly produced by the Church of Scotland's Church and Society Council and the ecumenical Scottish Churches Rural Group. Bill commends this material, together with the Church of Scotland Report to the 2012 General Assembly, “Our Daily Bread”, as general resources for raising awareness and further study. Contact him (01786 820295) or Synod members who have been sent copies-on line.

Methodist Conference news

During Conference in Plymouth, the Rev Ruth Gee was elected as President-designate for 2013-14 and Dr Daleep Mukarji as Vice-President-designate. Ruth is currently Chair of the Darlington District - she is known to Jenny Easson through Connexional and ecumenical committee memberships. Daleep's name may be familiar as a former Director of Christian Aid.

Following extensive discussions of the “Fruitful Field” report, Conference agreed to a major change in training and development, in future to be resourced through two hubs, Cliff College and Queen's Foundation Birmingham, with a connexion-wide network of training staff.

The bi-centenary of the Methodist Missionary Society will be marked by a special celebration in Leeds in October 2013. Once current negotiations and planning are finalised, it is intended that all “mission work” will be brought together some time after the bicentenary.
