Friday 10th February 2012, 12 noon - 1 pm YMCA 151 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry (opposite “M&S Food”) (map) Broughty Ferry Churches Group Christian Aid lunch. Soup (choice from 3 or more) is served with bread & cheese, followed by coffee (plus occasional shortbread!) for £2, in support of this ecumenical aid, relief and development charity. A warm welcome is given to all to come and share food and fellowship regularly or from time to time.

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in February for work in Costa Rica. Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • work with young people in Glasgow and Bearsden;
  • a meeting of the Biblefresh Executive in London on Tuesday;
  • distribution of Scriptures to libraries and needy people in Moldova, happening despite the political situation;
  • provision of Bibles to schools in New Zealand for use in RE classes - 32500 children to receive a copy;
  • the World Day of Prayer committee in Malaysia, and the materials they have prepared;
  • the annual Bible week in the South Pacific, providing opportunities for Bible reading marathons, youth rallies and quizzes, broadcast Bible studies and visits to churches.

Friday 24th February 2012, 10am to 4pm Royal Scots Club, Abercromby Place, Edinburgh “Without Words; Creative Communication” - a One-Day Workshop run by 'Faith in Older People', seeking to address, from a spiritual perspective, aspects of communication when living and working with people suffering from dementia.
The facilitators will be Kate Allan, a psychologist whose interests include communication creativity and wellbeing in dementia, and John Killick, a writer and champion of the role of art for people with dementia.

Saturday February 25th February 2012, 11am coffee / 11.30am start to 3.45pm Central Edinburgh Methodist Church, 25 Nicolson Square, Edinburgh EH8 9BX “Holiness and Risk” Event
This day event is for all interested and especially as a continuation for any who attended previous H&R Days. The programme will include a mix of sharing stories, exploring resources, worship, table fellowship - with fun and laughter as essential ingredients!

Scotland District Learning & Development Forum is hosting an open discussion to be resourced by Ann Morisy. Ann, then visiting Scotland, is well-known as an exciting and encouraging speaker on the churches' engagements with communities, and has written widely on this, including “Journeying Out: a new approach to Christian mission”.
