UNICEF Jars of Grace

The sum of £150.74 has so far been raised from Dundee Methodist Church. Any further contributions may be given to David Easson - the church cheque will be written in January. Thanks to all who supported this year's appeal.

Action for Children

Traditionally, during December our support is invited for “Methodism's child and family care arm”. Envelopes are being given out today for return on Sundays 23rd or 30th December. The Communion Offering today is allocated to Action for Children also.

Flower Rota

The Flower Rota for 2013 is now available from Elaine. Please note that there are currently FIVE vacancies for next year - Sundays 3rd February, 14th April, 30th June, 11th August, and 10th November.

Methodist Prayer Handbook 2013-14

The editor, Primavera Quantrill, is inviting contributions for the next connexional Prayer Handbook and our Chair of Synod, Lily Twist, has expressed the hope that the District will again have a number of contributions included, ie of printed prayers and / or photographic illustrations.

The theme for 2013-14 is “Light and Hope”, based on lines from the hymn 'May the God of hope go with us everyday' (Singing the Faith 411).

Full details of requirements are available on the Vestibule table or from the Office or Synod members.

Contributions are to be sent by 16th January to the District Office, Scottish Churches House, Dunblane, FK15 0AJ; email: fiona@methodistchurch.plus.com.

Friday 7th December 2012, 12 noon - 1 pm YMCA 151 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry (opposite “M&S Food”) (map) Broughty Ferry Churches Group Christian Aid lunch. A choice of soups (including a vegetarian option), bread and cheese, followed by coffee or tea is available, and a donation of £2 (or more!) is invited to support the work of Christian Aid. A warm welcome is given to all to partake of the food and fellowship, whilst thinking of others worldwide.
NB Friday's is the last before the 4-week Christmas / New Year break.
Saturday 15th December 2012, 6.30pm to 8.30pm Blairgowrie Methodist Church Christmas Concert - an evening of seasonal music provided by Rattray Primary and Blair Bells. Tickets - adults £3, children £1, including refreshments.
Sunday 16th December 2012, 7.30pm Caird Hall, Dundee Dundee Choral Union - Rossini's “Petite Messe Solennelle” - tickets from David Easson, Denise or Andy Jackson, or Box Office, City Square (£15; £5 students or unemployed; accompanied school pupils free).

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in December for work in China.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • distribution of 1,600 Bibles to prisons in Francophone Belgium;
  • completion of the New Testament in colloquial Arabic in Morocco;
  • application for permission to import paper to print Bibles in Algeria.
