Christmas message from the Methodist President - “Be generous”

The Rev Alison Tomlin, the President of the Methodist Conference, calls on the Methodist people to be generous this Christmas to those in need, those in pain and to God. She asks people to reflect how they are developing as disciples, learning about God and serving those in need throughout the world.

Offering Envelopes Scheme

Those who already contribute to the work of the Church through regular weekly offerings are asked to uplift their envelopes for 2011 from the table in Marketgait. It would also be helpful if envelopes could be delivered to those unable to access our premises.

For further information on the Scheme or Gift-Aided giving, please contact Cliff, Assistant Treasurer. It is also possible to ensure regular giving through a bank Standing Order; please contact David E, Treasurer, about this.

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited for work in January in India where the 1.1 billion people speak hundreds of different languages. Scripture already exist in many of these, but translation work continues so that smaller communities with striking Christian growth may have their spiritual needs met.

We are also asked to remember and pray for those affected by the recent growth in intolerance and even violence. See noticeboard for more information.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • the following aspects of SBS work:
    • changes following the closure of Bibleworld which has served to make contact with children and young people since 1991;
    • Bibleworld Mobile's partnership work with churches;
    • continuing development of the SBS website (www.scottishbiblesociety.org)
    • new projects developed and undertaken by SBS staff and by supporters throughout Scotland;
  • Northern Ireland Society's use of their Facebook page to try to involve more young people in their work;
  • work by Republic of Ireland colleagues in prisons and schools, despite financial restraints.
