Invitation to Broughty Ferry Churches Group

Our friends in Our Lady of Good Counsel, as other congregations in Scotland, have received their enhanced allocation of tickets for the Mass to be celebrated on Thursday 16th September in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.

They have intimated that they “are delighted to offer these to our friends in the BFCG on a 'first come first served' basis.” at an overall charge of £20 per head.

If you are interested, please contact Phil Kearns of OLGC no later than next Sunday, 8th August, and also advise David Easson so further details can be supplied. Phil's contact details are (01382) 774681; email philip.kearns@talktalk.net.

“Hope in God's Future: Christian Discipleship in the context of Climate Change”

Our views are invited on the above draft Statement on climate change which was received by Conference in 2009 and is due to return to Conference next year as a final Statement after this consultation process.

The Statement aims to help us all to become aware of the vital connections between climate change and our faith; to seek transformation of lifestyle through prayer, study and action; to inspire others in our communities.

Copies and further information are available online through the Methodist website: www.methodist.org.uk. Copies can also be ordered through the Help Desk: 020 7486 5502.

This is a Joint Statement of the Methodist Church, the United Reformed Church and the Baptist Union of Great Britain, who work together in an ecumenical Public Issues Team.

Habitat for Humanity

See Vestibule table for the latest edition of “Building Hope”.

HfH works for “a world where everyone has a safe, and decent place to live”, by the elimination of “poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth”.

This edition gives “a snapshot insight into the current situation in Haiti. Though it has been out of the news for some time, the work there continues and (HfH) is doing its part to build back better.”

Dundee Methodists have heard direct reports of and supported HfH work in East Africa and Kyrgystan in past years.

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited for work in August in Vietnam. See noticeboard for more information.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • 'Good News for a Thriving Nation' project in Vietnam;
  • distribution of Jonah in Sign Language in Mexico, also work among indigenous peoples and street children, and use of 'Faith Comes by Hearing' audio resources for the visually impaired;
  • increasing requests for Bibles, especially from students, to Cuban churches.
