UNICEF Jars of Grace

Dundee Methodists are again supporting the annual Appeal by UNICEF (the United Nations children's organisation) using Jam Jars which are to be collected during worship today or given in coming weeks to Mary F.

Scottish Churches House Vacancy

SCH are looking for an Assistant Director to help run Scotland's only residential ecumenical conference centre, in Dunblane, Perthshire. The Centre sleeps 41 guests and caters for up to 75, welcoming church groups and other organisations, plus family and individual BB bookings, and the holding of talks, events, retreats and celebrations.

Friday 6th November, 12 noon - 1.30 pm YMCA 151 Brook Street, Broughty Ferry (opposite “M&S Food”) (map) Broughty Ferry Churches Group Christian Aid lunch. Soup - a good selection each week - is served with bread & cheese, followed by coffee for £2, in support of this ecumenical aid, relief and development charity. There is also opportunity for meeting old friends and making new ones. A warm welcome is extended to Ferry Folk, people popping out from Dundee, and other visitors.
Saturday 7th November, 1 pm St Paul's Cathedral, 1 High Street, Dundee St Paul's Lunchtime Concert given by Jeanne You, piano. This season's programme. Tickets at door £3, children £2.

Scottish Churches House Prayer Network

Daily prayers are led at 9.00 - 9.15 am, with Network members particularly asked to join, if possible, on Wednesday mornings.

Prayers are invited for those in the House this week:

Artists Way, Holmehill Committee, Methodists, (Monday); Church of Scotland Ecumenical Relations (Tuesday-Wednesday); Methodists (Wednesday); Mission Africa (next weekend); Guests with Berliner Konzert Choir (from Saturday).

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in November for work in Mexico where specially graded Scripture booklets are used in communities of high illiteracy, including work with Tzeltal of Oxchuc and Tenek groups and poor Spanish-speaking people. See noticeboard for more information.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • launch of Glasgow Gospel DVD on Tuesday;
  • allocations of United Bible Societies grants for projects worldwide;
  • continuing translation work into Aboriginal languages in Australia, also preparation of resources for indigenous people;
  • work of churches in East Timor in advancing Bible ministry.

Warm thanks are expressed to Jean who for many years has acted as Dundee Methodist link person with SBS; future mailings will be distributed by Jenny who will be pleased to add names to Jean's list of those wishing to receive the regular SBS magazine.

Rotary Shoe Boxes

“Last year many members helped us to fill and send Shoe Boxes to Romania, Croatia, and the Ukraine. 1460 boxes were delivered through Spurgeons in Tinaud, Romania, to children, young people and their families. This year we are hoping to increase the number of boxes we can fill and they will be available to collect from the foyer. Filled boxes must be returned by Sunday 15th November” (Alan Suttie)

The Torch Trust

is a Christian organisation with a worldwide vision for people with sight loss. It has assisted Dundee Methodists' provision of Braille worship material. Its work also includes supporting fellowship groups, providing material for many countries, and facilitating of retreats & holidays. Its main offices are in Leicestershire and Torch International is based near Blantyre, Malawi.
