Increase your Bible Knowledge

The Institute of Bible Studies in Edinburgh has sent material publicising its 2-year course “aimed at members of a congregation who may wish to take their Bible knowledge to a higher level.” The course requires attendance at one Saturday a month for 9 months of the year. Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in September for work in Niger, a vast and arid country on the edge of the Sahara desert, where young people and children make up 2/3 of the population. See library area noticeboard for more information. Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • project in Niger to reach 14,000 young people and children with appropriate Scripture material;
  • Bible Society outreach to professional people in Sri Lanka;
  • availability of the Bible to people in the Maldives;
  • resources to extend Bible translation in India; successful 'Radio Bible' project, also training for senior regional staff;
  • promoting of BibleWorld at 'Awakening' event in Edinburgh for families and churches;
  • inter-church cooperation in Pakistan resulting in new Urdu Bible portions & comics, also computerised Urdu Bible nearing completion.

World Food Crisis News from Christian Aid

In May 140,000 Burmese refugees living in camps on the border with Thailand were threatened with a 50% cut in their already minimal rations. The Thailand Burma Border Consortium received new donations but still faces a shortfall of £1.75m.

Wednesday 8th October, 9.30 am to 4.15 pm Scottish Story-Telling Centre (the former Netherbow) 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh Migration Conference - “Scottish Churches and Contemporary Migration”
Organised by ACTS, with the support of the Scottish Government. The aim is to explore many of the issues around 'recent new migration, especially from Eastern Europe' and to identify key themes and challenges to which the Churches in Scotland can make a positive contribution.
