Pastoral

Ministerial pastoral care in the Circuit will be provided this week by the Rev David Firth.

“Fifth Sunday Worship” - planning

Jenny is grateful for the understanding behind the postponement of the planning meeting last Thursday because of her family circumstances. She and David Cowling will consult during this week and advise those interested of the theme and approach to worship on 31st August and of arrangements for any necessary planning meeting. Please let her know if you need or wish to have such information.

Lord Provost's Youth Festival

As intimated last week, Mary Henderson, as Secretary of the Dundee Nablus Twinning Association, sent news that this festival, next weekend (22nd - 24th August) was also to act as a twinning festival. There were to be 16 delegates from Nablus - 4 from the Municipality and 12 young people with events planned to include

  • “Meet and Greet Session” - Thursday 21st August (pm)
  • Saturday Parade, leaves Dundee High School at 2 pm
  • Concert / Ceilidh in “The Space”

As there has been report that the Nablus delegation has not been given permission to travel, for more information contact Mary (01382 775944).

Coffee Morning for Enable

Some people already know that Sue Marshall, as Chairperson of the Link Club, is planning to undertake a sponsored Cycle Ride in India during November to raise funds for Enable (the leading charity for learning disabilities in Scotland, to which the Link Club is affiliated). A sponsorship list is on the Vestibule table. To support Sue, a fund-raising Coffee Morning will be held in Marketgait on Saturday 30th August from 10 am to 12 noon. Tickets (£1 adults, 50p children) will be available from Link Club helpers or at the door on the day. There will be stalls and various games - support is warmly invited. Offers of help can be made to Lorna or through a Link Club helper.

Caird Hall Organ Concerts

BBC Antiques Road Show

This popular TV programme is to be recorded in the Caird Hall on Thursday 4th September, between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm. Admission is free - items to be brought on the day except for large pieces of furniture or bulky antiques (write with photo, address and phone number to Antiques Roadshow, BBC, Whiteladies Road, Bristol, BS8 2LR before Tuesday 26th August). Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in August for work in Egypt. See library area noticeboard for more information. Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to

  • start tomorrow (Monday) of sponsored 500-mile bike ride from Bavaria to Bratislava and back, to raise funds for SBS Bi-centenary project in north-east Brazil;
  • good progress on Khoekhoegowab New Testament translation project in Namibia, also printing of Oshindonga Bible and 2 other revisions;
  • 75th anniversary of the publication in South Africa of the Bible for Afrikaans-speakers;
  • impact of material distributed to factory workers and people with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho, also audio-Scriptures given to highland shepherd boys;
  • 'Emerge' event in Edinburgh on Saturday, aiming to bring churches together.

TRASH: Izzy's Promise (SC033706)

Information has been sent advising that Tayside Ritual Abuse & Support Helpline (TRASH) has effected a change of name to “Izzy's Promise”, to reflect the wider coverage of the charity in supporting ritual abuse survivors beyond the Tayside area.

The charity was founded in 2002 and is now located within the premises of the children's charity Eighteen and Under (EAU) in 1 Victoria Road, Dundee, DD1 1EL. The telephone helpline number is 01382 206222 (9-5, Monday-Friday).
