“Doors Open” Invitation from Heather

Heather's new house in Freuchie will be open to link with “Doors Open Fife” on Sunday 9th September. Please 'pop in during the afternoon until 5 pm to see this venture in “green” construction'. See also leaflet on table. (Heather also advises us that there will be other opportunities to come and see her new home!)

Property and Finance Committee

Members please note that there will be a brief meeting after worship next Sunday. Sandy's request is “please bring your diaries so a proper meeting can be fixed for a later date”.

Harvest Celebration reminders

  • Fair Trade Coffee Morning on Saturday 15th September from 10.30 am to 12 noon. Offers of home baking of 'FairTrade scones and fruit loaves' are invited - indicate on a sheet on the Vestibule table or direct to 'tricia. Suggested donation to Methodist Relief and Development Fund - £1.50.
  • Worship on Sunday 16th September including 'litany of offerings by congregation'.

Plans

Please note that Plans giving details of appointed Preachers in the Circuit's churches for September to November are now on the (glass) Vestibule table - free - please take and distribute. Information / requests for the next Plan should go to the Superintendent Minister by 11th September, please.

Charles Wesley 300th Birthday Anniversary - Perth Flower Festival Weekend

Our friends in Perth Methodist Church, Scott Street are marking the above anniversary by a Flower Festival in their premises from Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd September.

The programme is as follows:

  • Festival : Friday 10 am - 5 pm; Saturday 10 am - 4pm with musical interludes; Sunday 2 pm - 4 pm. Refreshments available throughout.
  • “Charles Wesley Unwrapped” - Friday 7.30 pm - Talk by Rev Prof Frank Whaling (ex-Perth) who will explain 'why celebrate Charles Wesley's 300th Birthday'! Admission free - followed by tea / coffee.
  • Concert by East Fife Male Voice Choir. Tickets £5 from 'Concorde' on Scott Street or phone 01738 827137.
  • Harvest Thanksgiving - Sunday 11 am
  • Charles Wesley Epilogue - Sunday 4 pm

Pastoral Committee Résumé

At Wednesday's meeting, members

  • considered individual concerns and made amendments to the Membership and Contact Lists;
  • supported Rev Mary Patterson's opening up of her proposed “membership and confirmation exploration” to all interested - watch news-sheet for details of time & place;
  • heard from members who had been present at the 'ad hoc' meeting the previous Friday which reflected on work with children of all ages within our congregation;
  • considered its comments for the forthcoming Church Council reflections on the 'Growing from The Inside Out' course;
  • agreed that, if possible, an Act of Re-dedication of Pastoral Visitors be included in the Covenant Service (today);
  • nominated Jenny E to the Church Council for re- appointment as Secretary for a further year;
  • agreed date of next meeting - Thurs 1st November.

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in September for work in Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries, beset with conflict and fear, and where the Christian community is in the minority. See library area noticeboard for more details.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to:

  • meeting of Mission Representatives Fellowship in Glasgow on Tuesday;
  • SBS sponsorship of the Church of Scotland' Youth Assembly in Dundee next weekend.

United Nations Millennium Development Goal no 3: promote gender equality and empower women

  • Colours of liberation fabrics & articles from Bolivia sold in the UK empower women of CLEM and bring health facilities to the community;
  • Network's Social and Community Action project 'The Trafficking of Women and Girls in Europe' aims to raise awareness and encourage lobbying of governments;

  • raise awareness in church and community
  • wear Black on Thursdays in solidarity with women suffering violence.
