Dundee Methodist Church

07 October 2007

Next Sunday: 14 October 2007 NCH Sunday (Scotland)

11 am
Worship led by the Rev David Firth

We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

Pastoral care

Please note that Rev David Firth will provide ministerial cover in the Circuit between 8th and 14th October and the Rev Mary Patterson from 15th October to 21st October.

“Share the Feast”

5 copies of this much-commended, very-readable book have been purchased to help our knowledge and understanding of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. They are available on the table at the back of the worship area for anyone to borrow, read, and return. Please sign the paper so we can try to keep some idea of where the copies are - thanks!

United Nations Millennium Development Goal no 8 : Establish global partnerships for development

'But what can I do?' - my usual pathetic response ... I started to buy fairly-traded goods and to boycott companies which I knew to be unethical. It may not be much, but taking some action is very empowering.

(Chris Thompson, Fair Trader)

UK Action Idea - “buy FT and tell your supermarket why”

  • We can all be involved in putting these MDGs into action;
  • We can all make a difference.

There is a supply of cards on the Vestibule table.

Support other Organisations

Scottish Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in October for work in Nigeria. See library area noticeboard for more details.

Our prayerful attention is drawn in the next 2 weeks to:

  • work on a Study Bible in the Netherlands Antilles;
  • bicentenary celebrations and Handwritten Bible project in the Republic of Ireland;
  • BibleWorld SBS Studios in Broughty Ferry (St Aidan's car park) on Wednesday & Thursday 17th - 18th October;
  • new mobile exhibition for children in France;
  • arts and media campaign designed with Greater Manchester churches to demonstrate contemporary relevance of the Bible.

Rotary Shoe Box Scheme

“Every Christmas Rotary International runs a scheme through schools, churches and offices where individuals are encouraged to fill a small box labelled with small gifts for a child, teenager, for a household or an older person. The boxes are driven out to such countries as Romania, Bulgaria, and Belarus for distribution. Last year some members from Fife supported this initiative and as a local organiser, I would like to extend the invitation to other organisations' members.

We supply the flat-pack boxes that make up to a size similar to a shoe-box and provide guidance on the type of things to fill the box. A visit to the 'one pound shop' would soon fill a box. I will leave a sheet on the table where you can sign up if you are interested and I will deliver boxes during October for collection back in early November.

When thinking about Christmas shopping, just think of the joy you could bring to someone who could be celebrating Christmas with no gifts at all.

With many thanks for your support, Alan Suttie”

NCH Christmas Cards

There is a brochure on the table. If we order more than 3 packs of cards between us, there will be no postage to pay. Please complete the separate order form: an order will be sent off before the end of October.
