Rota Time again!

  • Door Stewards and Coffee makers - please let Paddy know of any dates you do not wish to be on duty during the period September 07 to February 08. Thanks to everyone who helps in this way and a special 'Thank You' to those people who are retiring after having been faithful Door Stewards for many years. If anyone would like to join the team of Door Stewards or help with providing coffee after Sunday worship, please speak to Paddy or Mary F. Church Stewards and Counters will receive individual forms.

Support other Organisations

Bible Society

Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in July for work in Bolivia, including distribution to students and teachers in schools in La Paz and Cochabamba. See library area noticeboard.

Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to :

  • first inter-confessional translation of the Bible in Albanian;
  • progress with the bilingual Maori-English translation and on-going work on the Maori Old Testament, in New Zealand;
  • printing of the revised Bible in Macedonia;
  • recuperation, especially rebuilding of homes after the tsunami in the Solomon Islands;
  • distribution of the Children's Bible in Greece.

Scottish Churches Housing Action

  • The latest issue of 'Our Homeless Neighbour' (no 46 for July 2007) is on the Vestibule table : borrow - read - return.
  • SCHA will be taking part in the 'Nexus Scotland 2007' event in the SECC, Glasgow on Thursday - Saturday 23rd - 25th August, when the Christian Resources Exhibition and the Big Saturday join to host “their largest ever Scottish show”. The SCHA stall is in the 'Reach Out' section and on Thursday 23rd will host a seminar, 'Homelessness and poverty action 2008'.
  • Planning is in progress to link Homelessness Sunday 2008 - 28th January- through the week to Poverty Action Sunday - 3rd February - with materials on the theme 'Opening Doors, Opening Hearts'. Further details from www.homelessness-sunday.org.uk and www.churches-housing.org.

Feed The Minds

Feed The Minds is now established as the only ecumenical Christian Non-Governmental Organisation in the UK, committed solely to supporting education and communication projects worldwide. In addition to its programme of grant-aid for literacy projects worldwide, it is developing a pioneering project 'Peacemakers', which “demonstrates the connection between what happens at home and globally on our partners' doorsteps.”

Sunday 13th August, 3 pm St John's Methodist Church, 15 Ponderlaw, Arbroath (map) “Songs of Praise Service” to celebrate the tercentenary of the birth of Charles Wesley (1707-1788). Afterwards, “there will be plentiful refreshments available in the hall for us all to enjoy”. Please note this date now and support it if possible - the Arbroath congregation are looking forward to welcoming us to St John's!
