Dundee Methodist Church

04 February 2007

Next Sunday: 11 February 2007

11 am
Worship led by Mr David Cowling (in place of Sue Marshall)

We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.

Face 2 Faith

In 2006 the young people of Methodism challenged the Church to dedicate a month to prayer for improved relationships between people of different faiths. The Methodist Conference rose to the challenge and Face 2 Faith, taking place across the church in February 2007 is the result.

Prayer for the Month

God, creator of this world, one yet divided,

forgive us that we allow divisions

between ourselves and people of other faiths

and so add to instability in the world.

Teach us that it is the responsibility of us all

to reach out with the hands of friendship

and build safer communities.

Help us, God of all, to work for peace.

Charity Regulations

To comply with Scotland's Charity Law and the requirements of The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), ALL Managing Trustees (ie ALL 20 members of the Church Council) are required to complete & sign forms for forwarding to OSCR via the Methodist Office in Manchester. These accompany the registration form which Finance and Property Committee looked at last week. David E requests that Managing Trustees do this as soon as possible. Please collect a form from him today for return by next Sunday.

Door Steward, Coffee and Chair Rotas for March - August

It would assist in the making up of the rotas if outstanding forms could be returned promptly to Paddy please - thanks!

Pastoral Committee

Papers for the meeting at 7.30 pm on Thursday 15th February are available from David E today or subsequently in the 'red Pastoral tray' in the upstairs office. Please note that all Church Stewards are ex officio members of this Committee.

Publicity leaflet

Supplies of the recently-produced leaflet are being distributed to hotels and guest houses, tourist outlets, libraries and other appropriate locations within our “neighbourhood”. Thanks go to the Publicity Group (David Firth, Avril, Angus for preparation, and to Heather for distribution. See example on noticeboard.

Website move

Please note the new location, amend any records, and 'spread the news' as appropriate.

“Songs of Praise” - Dundee

Tern TV is to record a “Songs of Praise” in Dundee during February, with the congregational hymn-singing taking place on the nights of Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st February in St Paul's Episcopal Cathedral under John Bell as conductor.

Commitment to both evenings is requested so it may “look and sound as absolutely good as it can”.

Sound recording only will be done on the first night, with recording of singing to pre-recorded sound on the second night.

Past experience has demonstrated that the hard work required has been enriching, not least through John Bell's contribution to learning about hymns and worship through the singing. Tickets will be required - “ to avoid turning people away at the door” - please let Paddy know if you hope to take part.

Habitat for Humanity / 2nd European Methodist Festival

Janice Clark (H for H Development Officer Scotland, Methodist in Edinburgh & Forth Circuit) has sent a reminder of the planned visit to Hungary and Slovakia in August by members of the Scotland Methodist District & others. The Festival is to take place in Bratislava from 1st to 5th August; prior to this there is to be an HforH working party in Csurgo, Hungary, in cooperation with a team from the USA.

There are still places on the Scotland Team (deposits have been paid on flights for 10 people - 5 are already taken). Please see information on noticeboard and contact Janice (not Colin Ride, Europe Secretary in MCH) as there is to be a group booking for all parts of the programme including flights.

Janice can be contacted by email: clark.janice@gmail.com.
