Pastoral Charge
During Mary's sabbatical, from now to the New Year,
please notify the Rev David Firth of any request or need for
Ministerial pastoral care direct and / or via the Pastoral
Secretary (Jenny Easson), Pastoral Visitors, or the Church Stewards.
Church Council résumé
At the meeting on Friday 29th September, business included
- deferment of the appointment of a new Dundee representative to Circuit Meeting until next Council;
- process for deciding take-up of “Growing from the
Inside Out” course after Sunday 5th November;
- property matters including replacement & maintenance work, statutory risk assessments, recycling & other ecological considerations;
- a 'healthy' financial report including Statements for 2005-6 & Budget for 2006-7, and formal acceptance of the required Reserves Policy;
- pastoral report including
- appointment of 'tricia as a Pastoral Visitor (in Fife);
- need to strengthen crèche rota;
- worship items including
- 'Pray Without Ceasing' feedback and thoughts for continued strengthening of our prayer life together;
- agreement to Service on Christmas Day;
- Service & Mission Committee's arrangements for
- “Fresh Expressions” Coffee Morning on Saturday 21st October from 10 am to 12 noon;
- Edinburgh “Inter-Faith Group” visit on Sunday 19th November to share in worship and faith lunch;
- reports from Circuit Meeting and Synod, noting that 'tricia, Sandy & David E are to go to Conference;
- matters relating to children and young people;
- Link Club news, including pressures on its (small) team of 'lead helpers', especially the Secretary;
- 'publicity and outreach', including formation of a small
“publicity group” to design and produce a leaflet (if interested, contact Avril or David Firth)

NCH
The Annual UK National Service of Thanksgiving will be held in
Central Hall, Tollcross, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 10th October at 7.15 pm.
The President and Vice-President of Conference will take part, and also
young people from NCH projects & the Tollcross Primary School Gaelic
Choir. Worship will be followed by refreshments and presentations,
hosted by Gordon Eglinton, Chair of NCH.
It is hoped that there will be good support from Scotland Methodists,
particularly from neighbouring Circuits including ours.
Tickets are available free on the Vestibule table - please collect;
contact David Firth about coordinating transport.
Property points
Sought - Volunteer painters for painting the surrounds of the new storage radiators upstairs - please see Norah if you can help with this “small job”
A vacuum cleaner is now available for use downstairs and is being kept in the cupboard in the back room.

Scottish Bible Society
Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in October for work in Sri Lanka. See library area noticeboard.
Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to
- support for translation work in Finland;
- preparation of a 'study edition' of the new revised New Testament in the two main languages of Norway;
- Sweden's request for blessing on its “mission to make the Bible known and read in our country”;
- translation work in Maori and Tokelauan in New Zealand.
