Pastoral Charge
During Mary's sabbatical, from now to the New Year, please notify the Rev David Firth of any request or need for Ministerial pastoral care direct and / or via the Pastoral Secretary (Jenny Easson), Pastoral Visitors, or the Church Stewards.
Property Points to note
Carpet-cleaners will be working in the premises on Wednesday, beginning upstairs from c 11 am. Their advice is that the rooms should be ready for use on Thursday.
Volunteer painters for painting the surrounds of the new storage radiators upstairs - please see Norah if you can help with this “small job”.
NCH
The Annual UK National Service of Thanksgiving will be held in
Central Hall, Tollcross, Edinburgh, on Tuesday 10th October at 7.15 pm.
The President and Vice-President of Conference will take part, and also
young people from NCH projects & the Tollcross Primary School Gaelic
Choir. Worship will be followed by refreshments and presentations,
hosted by Gordon Eglinton, Chair of NCH. Tickets are available free
(not necessary for entry but to indicate possible numbers). Please
sign the list on the table if you hope to go - Rev David Firth is to
obtain tickets. Please also see David about “travelling
together”.
Crèche Rota
Elaine or the Church Stewards will be grateful to hear from / of people willing to
join the (currently small) team willing to take care of “wee ones” downstairs
during part of Sunday morning worship.
Flower distribution
Jean has requested assistance with the distribution of flowers on a Sunday for the
period of her recuperation from eye surgery (2 operations). Please contact her in advance
or have a word with her.
mph (re-branding of Methodist Publishing House!)
The new catalogue is now available - one set of the leaflets giving
details is on a Vestibule table. Among publications are
- “Share this Feast”, reflecting on Holy Communion
in nine themes -
life in unity, thanksgiving, remembering, sacrifice, personal devotion, presence, the work of the Spirit, anticipation, mission and justice.
- “Peacemaking: A Christian Vocation”, a joint report by the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, commended during Conference in Edinburgh.
Support other Organisations
Scottish Bible Society
Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in October
for work in Sri Lanka where people are still slowly picking up their
lives after the Boxing Day Tsunami disaster with the loss of valued
possessions, including Bibles, for many. See library area noticeboard
for more details.
Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to
- continued use of BibleWorld SBS Studios, undergoing its annual overhaul this week in Hull;
- coordinators, volunteers and visitors to BibleWorld exhibition in Curacao Netherlands Antilles;
- SBS young staff team helping teach Bible module in a Wishaw school on Thursday;
- translation projects into Akawaoi, Waphishana, and Creole in Guyana and French Guiana;
- continuing popularity of BibleWorld project in Suriname.
Preparations for Bible Sunday (29th October) include a National Sponsored Walk on Saturday 28th October, to raise funds to help provide “A Voice for Romania”. See letter on library noticeboard for more information.

A Feast of Festivals. Our support is invited for this concert to be given by
St Mary's Church Choir and Friends.
Admission free - collection in aid of the Organ Restoration Fund.
The conductor will be Bill Sinclair and Euan Crabb the trumpet soloist.
