Support other Organisations
Scottish Bible Society
Our support through the Bible-a-Month Club is invited in July for work in Mexico. In the mountainous state of Chiapas, at the southern tip of the country, the population speak 57 distinct indigenous languages. In this poor area, once the centre of the Mayan Empire, Christians suffer religious intolerance. See library area noticeboard for details.
Our prayerful attention is drawn this week to
- work in Mexico City where the work of agencies providing essentials to 130,00 street children is complemented by Bible Society material;
- new programmes in the USA;
- publication of the Psalms in Azeri (Azerbaijan) and distribution of the Old Testament in Azeri;
- launch of Braille version of Luke and other books in Armenia, also completion of the Common Language New Testament;
- developing work in Georgia and Lithuania.
Christian Aid - “The Beat Goes On” - July 8th
A year after the G8 Summit at Gleneagles, the campaign 'to make poverty history' continues its pressure on the UK Government in a DRUMMING CAMPAIGN.
- Various events are being planned for next Saturday, including at 'T in the Park', Balado, Kinross. See Christian Aid newspaper for more details (including drum-beat rhythm!).
- 'Summer Drumming' includes events in July and September to “beat out our new trade justice demand for the Government to cut funding to the IMF and World Bank”.
- The request for Saturday July 8th is for 10,103 drummers to form “a nationwide drumming petition and a world-record attempt, all rolled into one” to act as a “succinct reminder to our government of its promise to the world's poorest people”, through one of the world's most universal - and noisiest - means of communication.
