Church Council - Points To Note

The Church Council met on Wednesday and its business included:

  • reports from the Senior Church Steward; Finance & Property, Pastoral, Service & Mission Committees; Worship Group; Children's Group and Link Club
  • appointments to be made at the General Church Meeting will include Church Stewards and representatives to the Church Council
  • the Treasurer's interim report indicated that, in comparing the current state of finances with the budget, “we are generally on course”
  • the Communion Offering in June will be for “Dundee Carers Sitters Association” and in July for “The Maggie Centre, Dundee”. Please note that this year the June collection is being “specified” rather than being retained for the ordinary use of the Benevolence Fund. Allocation of the November Communion offering will be decided later.
  • Property matters included undertaking statutory assessments (eg 'Risk'), maintenance and upkeep of the premises, piano-tuning
  • membership as at 1.11.05 was returned on the Annual Schedule as 85 (same figure as last year)
  • discussion and consultation continues as to the appropriate approach to take with “callers requesting money”
  • the Worship Group's proposals for observing Lent were endorsed, including displays in the front window
  • timetable for considering the Report “What sort of Bishops?” - comments due by 31st October
  • dates for worship in Lent and Holy Week for Broughty Ferry Churches Group and City Centre Churches. Please note
    • Broughty Ferry Lent worship to be planned and led by St Luke's & Queen Street with ourselves on Wednesday 15th March at 7.30 pm in St Luke's & Queen Street

    • Good Friday worship (14th April) at 7.30 pm in Meadowside St Paul's
  • proposed United Services (City Centre Churches) on Sunday evenings at 6.30 pm:
    • 26th February in Marketgait
    • 19th March in St Joseph's RC (tbc)
    • 16th April - Easter Songs of Praise in Congregational Church (tbc)
  • General Church Meeting date - Sunday 4th June
  • next Church Council - Wed 21st June at 7.30 pm.
  • Circuit Forum - “open consultation”

This Consultation about the life of our Circuit will take place in Marketgait, Dundee on Saturday 25th February from 10 am (coffee) to finish no later than 2.30 pm, with lunch provided at 1 pm.

The main aim of the Forum is to look at the present way of “Team Ministry” working; the programme will include particular opportunities to talk together about “worship” and “pastoral care”, followed by conversation about the way ahead for the Circuit and its five congregations. It is important that as many people as possible from each church meet together, to share thinking and provide guidance for the March Circuit Meeting.

If this date is not in your diary / year planner / mind … please make sure it is NOW!

Dundee folk are asked to note that, as our premises are being used and we are therefore to some extent “hosts” (and mostly not travelling far), we have been asked to provide “a simple lunch” (at Circuit expense). Keith & Jenny, as members of the Circuit Leadership Team that is planning the Forum, will be coordinating this. Please also advise them of any particular requirements (diet, child care, ..).

Dundee is represented on the Circuit Meeting by Keith - Circuit Steward, Paddy - Church Steward, David E - Church Treasurer, 'tricia & Heather - elected representatives. They may be consulted on Circuit matters at any time.

    “Join Up the Dots”

Please note that this proposed World Church Event will not now take place on February 18th because of the small numbers able to attend then.
