22 May 2005
We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.
General Church Meeting
The annual General Church Meeting will take place next Sunday after worship (please note
the earlier start!) to give an opportunity for discussion of the life of our Church. Everyone
is invited to take part in the Meeting, which has responsibility for electing the Church Stewards
(1 known vacancy), representatives to the Church Council, and auditors. This is also an
important opportunity for sharing in conversation about matters of current concern and
the way ahead. Please note that the Church Council decided to take the opportunity to hold
a practice “Emergency Fire Evacuation” at the close of the GCM.
Pre-Ordination Service
The Rev David Firth will be in Glasgow this evening at this Service for the Rev Seija
Wallace who is to be ordained on Sunday 26th June at 5 pm in Honiton, during Conference,
held this year in Torquay. Our prayers are invited for Seija at this important stage in
her ministry.
Librarian’s Plea
Clare is trying to trace the Church Library copy of “It’s Not
Just Counting the Collection – a Guide to Being a Church Steward”. If you
have it and are no longer using it, please return it - or let Clare know of its whereabouts!
World Council of Churches 9th Assembly – 2006
“I attended an ‘Occasional Ecumenical Seminar’ in Dunblane last week,
to hear more about the WCC 9th Assembly to be held on 14th – 23rd February next year
in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on the theme “God, in your grace, transform the world”.
The Chair was the Rev Norman Shanks (C of S Minister in Govan, Chair of the Assembly
Planning Committee) and the Speaker, the Rev Dr Alan Falconer (formerly of the WCC, now
in Aberdeen), so we were well informed about the Assembly theme(s), programme, participants,
and planning. Our prayers are invited for all involved in preparations for the Assembly, now
and next February. See the noticeboard for card with logo – in whole and part(s).”

District Networking Day (formerly “Officers’ Day”). This is open
to “anyone who is interested in sharing what is happening locally and nationally
in the Methodist Church in Scotland”.
The Day will include workshops / small group discussions led by people from within the
Resource Units networks, on such topics as
- disability issues in the church
- ‘Prayer without Ceasing’ initiative to be launched at Conference in June,
- priorities for our discipleship and development of new work to support us all,
- “Sharing our faith” – exploring how we might tell the story of our
faith journeys among ourselves and to others.
Last year’s enjoyable Day at Rosyth led to the development of new areas of work
and more people being involved across the District. Soup and sandwich lunch will be
provided - more details, including travel information, in leaflets coming from the
District Office in Dunblane in the next week or so.
The Day is open to anyone interested and everyone is asked
to think seriously about coming to meet and share with our Methodist
sisters and brothers from other parts of Scotland.
