John Wesley 300th birthday Celebrations

Methodism world-wide is preparing to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of John Wesley at Epworth on 17th June 1703. On 28th June (the date on which JW marked his birthday after the “calendar change”) Conference will celebrate at its opening in Llandudno, but many events are also being planned in Districts, Circuits and communities. These events are intended to be not only a celebration of the past but an incentive to present and future work:

There is something vital about honouring our past, so that our future is lived to the full. In no way do we want you to be tied to the “good old days ” and solely look back to the days of Wesley’s lifetime. Instead, we hope you will be inspired and encouraged in new ways as you hear again the story of this remarkable man, who was driven by the all–embracing love of God and his indestructible grace in Jesus Christ. There is no doubt that Methodism today needs to rejoice in, and talk up, its distinctive ways of being Christian in this multi-faceted world. We do nobody any favours if we apologise for being Methodists! This great Tercentenary is a wonderful opportunity for us all to be fired up with God’s love for all — as John Wesley truly was!

Rev Henry Richardson, Chairman of Planning Group for the Tercentenary of John Wesley’s birth

Please therefore note and be involved in “our” celebrations. Dundee Methodists are invited be part of the Scotland Celebration, which is taking place in 3 areas, with our Circuit sharing events in Perth with the Edinburgh & Forth and Central Circuits.
