06 JULY 2003
We give the assurance of our thoughts and prayers to all who are unwell, awaiting or undergoing treatment, or anxious or grieving for the loss of loved ones.
Quiet Space
The back downstairs room will be prepared as a “quiet area” for reflection
before Sunday worship from today for all who wish to use it.
Chair Rota
David E has so far heard of 5 people offering to set out chairs for Sunday worship. Since
one person is willing to be part of 2 teams, this gives a total of 3 pairings – somewhat
short of what is required for a rota on a monthly (or longer) basis. If you are able to help
in this, please contact David today or as soon as possible.
District Re-patterning Forms
If you have not collected your named form from the table, please do so. It would be
helpful if completed forms could be returned to David E today or next Sunday please, as the
District Unit Coordinators are waiting to undertake the next stage of this process.
The Children’s Group
The pattern of “going downstairs & coming upstairs” will be continuing
today. From next Sunday to 20th August, preachers have been invited to think of worship
suitable for all ages; there are also folders for the children to have whilst sitting with
families or friends, as we all remain together upstairs. Downstairs activities will resume
on Sunday 24th August. Please contact Margaret or Lorna to find out more or offer help.
News-sheet News
There will be a “combined” edition of the weekly news-sheet next Sunday
covering up to 27th July; please let the editors have material for these weeks as soon as
possible & before Thursday. Thanks!

Christian Aid – Clean Water for Life
Imagine
- waking every morning and wondering how you will find water for your family
- living with the constant fear that the water you do find will make you ill
- not having enough water to cook food for your children
Did you know?
- over 1 billion people – 1 in 6 – of the world’s population do not have access to safe water
- a child dies every 15 seconds from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene
- the average person in the UK uses 135 litres of water a day – enough for 14 people in the developing world.
Reality for Hawa Anadu, Accra, Ghana:
“The tiny compound Hawa’s family shares with 31 others has no mains water supply and the nearest source of drinking water is a mile away. To add to Hawa’s difficulties, the water is not provided free. Every day she hands over 40p, almost half the average daily wage in developing countries, for the most basic necessity for human life.”

“Safe From Harm” Conference Day. Since this coincides with Synod in Paisley,
the Minister and some others are unable to go, but it would be useful to have representation (cost £5 +
travel, take picnic lunch). The Day is intended to be “a means of supporting and equipping all those
involved in working with
children” and the timetable includes
- An overview of child protection issues - principles of safeguarding & practical measures
- Disclosure procedures – for whom & how, presented by a representative from The Central Registered
Body in Scotland
- Questions & answers – panel of experts.
If you are interested in going, please let the Minister know, since the District Office would like to know of
Methodist Churches represented. An information leaflet & booking form is in the Pastoral Tray in the
office.
